It’s getting warm down in Troy, Alabama USA. The breeze is nice, sunsets always colorful. Baseball season kicks off tomorrow night. The month and some odd weeks of school seem to be ending at a vertical cliff of mounting work. It always works out that way.
I am a winter man myself and hate to see it pass, but when a bead of sweat rolls down my cheek it reminds me that good times are up ahead.
Just around the corner is a short stint of a month and a half of outdoor education. Turkey hunting is slowly engraining itself in my veins. There is something about the reverberating sound of a gobble that can prove an addiction to the ones who truly appreciate it. And there is something about failing that makes you go back. I haven’t tasted success by taking a bird yet, but I know when I taste that success it won’t ever be the same.
I’ll be busy announcing Troy baseball games all spring so my best break away from the madness is going to be spring break. The first week of March you all can find me on a river.
Eastern Tennessee. Western Carolina. Northern Georgia. Who knows? That ice water is what I need. The camaraderie of a couple fishing buddies. A couple cold beers in the cooler. A loaf of bread and a pack of bologna. Not a day goes by I don’t dream about it.
What are your plans this spring? A held up, lengthy winter in the house gets to every person.
Use the opportunity. It might be a gulf beach. It might be a golf course. Perhaps a little yard work. Take in some mountain air. Pitch a camp. Get away from the television! Especially if you can do so on a regular basis!
Immerse yourself in God’s creation.
Take advantage of that. The good Lord meant it that way.
